Brainspotting

Brainspotting Therapy in Irvine and throughout California
Have you grown through talk therapy and want a different treatment to supplement?
Is talking about your pain or trauma too much, but don’t know how else to heal it?

Maybe you’ve experienced a traumatic event or loss, or perhaps you’ve hit a plateau in talk therapy and are ready to try something different. You may be struggling talking about your pain, or simply overwhelmed by physical sensations tied to your emotions. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck or wanting to do something more but not knowing what.

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of this in every facet of your life:

  • Experiencing strong physical sensations tied to your emotions

  • Struggling to process what happened to you

  • Difficulty talking about your emotions or pain with others, including a therapist

Brainspotting helps you do these things:

  • Identify the root of the problems you’re experiencing

  • Process your pain, trauma or experiences in a way that requires little to no verbalization of these memories or feelings

  • Understand and connect with your body and the information it’s giving you related to your emotions

  • Find relief and change in your challenges so you can move forward in your healing

I’ll help through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to Brainspotting comes from a place of attunement and connection: Believing that sometimes our emotions need to be processed in a held space that might not necessarily require words, and the power of safety with a trusted therapist.

You don’t have to live life feeling stuck and overwhelmed.

I can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are Brainspotting sessions like?

A: Brainspotting can be used effectively both in person and online. In person, you will sit facing me directly, and online we will set up your camera to have an eye level view of me. I also share a particular kind of music, called Biolateral music, that engages both parts of your brain in a way that makes your processing more effective.

We’ll start our session by identifying what you’d like to process or sit with, and identifying the emotion and physical sensations that come along with it. The most effective way to find a brainspot is by using a pointer and moving it through your field of vision starting at eye level. I will move the pointer and check in with you about your experience. As I move the pointer, you get to take the lead in sharing with me what “spot” in your vision activates the issue the strongest. I’ll fine tune the spot to get access to the strongest activation, and from then on will create the space for you to let your brain process the issue. From here, you can hold the experience or feeling in your mind in a way that allows a “bottom up” approach to healing - by allowing your body and brain to process in a way that’s different from traditional talk therapy.

Everyone responds differently to brainspotting, and no single brainspotting session is the same. You can find yourself experiencing memories, emotions, and sensations that can be surprising. I am there with you through it all, and you are more than welcome to share as you experience or we can just sit together.

Afterwards, we can take some time to talk about your brainspotting session - or you can just rest for a bit and drink water before you head out. After experiencing a session, it’s important to give yourself and your brain grace, by taking it slow and caring for yourself.

Clients report feeling an organic shift and change in their responses or reactions to the issues we focused on, and feel lighter and clearer in their perception of what was previously confusing and cloudy.

Taking the time to connect with your body in a way that allows you to gently explore and heal your pain or trauma can be transformational. Allowing your mind and body to take the lead and trusting in your own wisdom to lead you to healing is empowering and freeing.

Q: How long do I need to be in Brainspotting therapy?

A: I find that my clients usually find the most transformative change with a minimum of 12 sessions, weekly. However, with Brainspotting some clients report a more effective decrease in their overwhelming feelings and response to their memories in a short period of time. As always, we check in on how you’re feeling with progress and can always stop treatment at any time.

Q: How do I know if Brainspotting will work for me?

A: While I can’t make guarantees, I can share from personal and professional experience that Brainspotting has made a difference in peoples’ lives. Through my training, and in my work I have seen that Clients are able to make deep connections, find relief and process their emotions in a way that’s transformative.

Q: How do we get started?

A: I’m ready when you are! Let’s set up a complimentary 15 minute consultation here. I prefer email, and we can set up a time to chat that works for both of us. During the consultation, you’ll share your concerns with me, I’ll share a little more about how I work and if we feel that we’d be a good fit - we can go over scheduling and availability and get started on your healing.
